Consumers League opposes the efforts in Congress to prevent middle class consumers with serious debt problems from exercising their right to declare bankruptcy. See the CLNJ position paper.

The best place to keep track of the so-called bankruptcy reform is the American Bankruptcy Institute's site, which is updated daily.

Rent to Own
CLNJ has supported efforts to make rent to own stores (which sell appliances on credit at interest rates over 100%) disclose the Annual Percentage Rate. CLNJ opposes the RTO industry efforts to get themselves exempted from the same credit laws which other merchants obey.

Bills in Congress may be found at "Thomas" the website of Congress.
